Today’s Museletter inspiration takes you back to the summer of 2012, with the classic earworm Thriftshop by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Where the first edition of the museletter focused on your sexy people (aka your ideal clients), this one is all about YOU and being who you are in your business.
Q for you:
Do you ever look around at other successful businesses and business owners and think, “Man, I really wish I was more like that”? Do you follow them, find out their ways, buy ALL the courses, find the same clothes, make yourself as close to a carbon copy as you can in the hopes that those are the things that will bring you to “their level” yet you always feel a little out of place (and those methods don’t work)?
Or are you more of a hider? Do you stay behind the scenes, saying “yes” to things, quietly and tentatively stating what you do, then work and work and work while you wish that you were braver, wish that you were more?
When I heard Thriftshop yesterday, I laughed out loud as I listened to the lyrics and remembered the unabashed energy, joy, and straight-up swagger in the video.
And it got me wondering…
What if we stopped hiding, stopped copying, and brought some of that Thriftshop energy to our lives and our businesses instead?
What if we decided to be people who so fully own their style and way of being in the world, that we show up on our socials and in conversations like, “what up?”.
What if we had the courage to express ourselves in that bold ass confidence a majority of the time?
I think it would be a pretty rad and fun place, don’t you?
If you are a hider, what would it look like to allow yourself to be fully seen?
If you tend to want to follow someone else’s path, what would it look like to dig deep and discover your own?
I’ve had a tendency to be a little bit of both and whenever I get in those zones, I can’t write, I can’t speak, and it drags me down, man. BOOO.
But when I’m in my Thriftshop energy? I’m unstoppable, the words flow and I can’t wait to meet you where you are.
I KNOW THE SAME IS TRUE FOR YOU. How can you invoke your Thriftshop Energy today?
What you do is only half of the equation. Who you are makes a difference for your right person. We’re all a collection of mix and match. Some things that don’t look like they go together but somehow, in just exactly THIS way, it’s perfect.
The way you do it is the magic of it.
Am I saying that you need to don a faux fur coat and go strutting down the street? Not necessarily. (But then again… maybe!) But I am saying that it’s time to wear it – even just a little bit – on the inside. 😉
Whatever you are, go out and rock that mothaf?cka.
You look incredible and I like your face.
Have a great week!
XO,
S
